Day 5: Celebrations on the boat

Formidable Swells

As the Mayflower crew embarked on their fifth day at sea, they faced formidable swells that tested their endurance and seamanship. The previous nights, Friday (Day 3) and Saturday (Day 4), brought strong winds and waves that impeded their progress, at times causing the vessel to drift sideways and lose ground. Observers tracking their journey via the YB Races App noted these lateral movements, indicative of the ocean's relentless force.

Celebration for Dan Lewis

Despite these adversities, the crew's determination remained unwavering. By Saturday morning, their relentless rowing efforts bore fruit as they secured 3rd place overall in the race. A position they maintained all weekend. This achievement was a testament to their resilience and strategic navigation, as they adeptly manoeuvred below the challenging weather system to optimize their course.

Morale aboard the Mayflower remained high, bolstered by camaraderie and shared purpose. The weekend was marked by a special occasion: Dan's birthday. Celebrating such a milestone amidst the vast Atlantic is undoubtedly an experience he will cherish forever.

Commitment to the cause

The crew's commitment extends beyond personal achievement; they are rowing to support two commendable charities: the star* scheme and the Mustard Tree. Notably, 100% of the funds raised are directed to these causes, as the crew has chosen to self-fund the expedition.
